Girard Sunflowers
Debuting in August 2025, Girard witnessed a burst of color on a scale rarely seen in the tri‑state region. At the historic Battles Farm — part of the Hagen History Center’s Girard campus — 1.2 million sunflowers were planted across 50 acres, transforming 436 Walnut Street into a sweeping, golden panorama.
The display drew at least 10,000 visitors, according to the Hagen History Center, turning the farm into a seasonal destination and a social‑media phenomenon. The project’s impact rippled far beyond Girard, earning a 2025 Grassroots Advocacy Award for its creativity, community engagement, and sheer ambition.
For a few radiant weeks, the Girard Sunflowers became a living landmark — a field that stopped people in their tracks.
