Welcome to Weird Erie — your offbeat guide to the strange, storied, and spectacular corners of the Greater Erie area.

We are three quirky locals with a shared obsession: uncovering the forgotten history, eerie legends, and delightfully odd roadside attractions that make our region so uniquely fascinating. From haunted lighthouses and cryptic folklore to rusted-out relics and roadside dinosaurs, we dig deep into the mysteries that most people overlook — and we do it all for the love of Erie.

  • A cartoon crow dressed as a wizard with a large witch hat, scarf, and a satchel, walking.

    Rook

Rook, an avid road-tripper and birder, brings a deep background in family history research and once served as president of a small local historical society in SWPA. She runs the website and Instagram account, always chasing the next forgotten landmark.

  • Illustration of a cheerful monkey character dressed like a scholar, holding a book, wearing a blazer, sweater, collared shirt, and boots, with a large backpack.

    Jo-Jo

Jo-Jo, who holds a Master’s in History, explores Erie County with his family and a keen eye for stories that slip through the cracks. He helps shape our social media presence with curiosity and care.

  • A cartoon-style illustration of a monkey with gray fur, sitting and holding a crystal in one hand and a laptop with a moon symbol on the front in the other. The monkey has big, expressive eyes and a friendly expression, with a beige background.

    Smyrill

Smyrill, our tech guru and metaphysical enthusiast, keeps Weird Erie running behind the scenes. He’s always exploring—digitally and spiritually—and helps bring the uncanny to life online.

This site is a labor of passion, not profit. We volunteer our time to research, explore, and share the weirdness we find, hoping to spark curiosity and maybe even a road trip or two. Whether you're a lifelong resident or just passing through, Weird Erie invites you to see this place through a different lens — one that celebrates the strange, the spooky, and the spectacularly obscure.

Thanks for joining us on the journey. Stay curious. Stay weird.
